A sustain pedal is highly recommended for piano lessons. Many electronic keyboards appropriate for lessons come with one, and most of those that don’t will accommodate one which you can get separately. Though formal pedal training begins only after a time in Simply Music lessons, it’s great to have a pedal from the start, getting used to holding it down while playing entire songs. There are other types of pedals for electronic keyboards, but only a sustain pedal is needed for piano lessons.
